Buy it…By Zino DavidoffJust a quick note on this wonderful Jolida amplifier. I have a very early version of this amp. I bought it used and needing repair after the original owner had let it go too long. As it happens, the Jolida service center is near Washington, D.C. so it’s not too inconvenient for me to have serviced in person. I bought it for a song and have spent very little on keeping it sounding great. The very musical sound of this amp (which is surprisingly powerful given the modest output spec) is the quality I love most. It has very simple controls and needs nothing else except, sometimes I wish mine had a remote. Anyway, tube equipment is NOT for everyone. But if you know what the natural warmth of analog amplification does to digital sources, you’ll absolutely LOVE this amp.I have digital CD players and an Apple Base Station connected to it, and also use a couple of DACs. Though those aren’t strictly necessary for great sound, they do help my mid-fi CD players sound more coherent. The Jolida loves a detailed source so pair it up with a good universal disc player or your iPod. Perversely, my turntable is connected to a massive B&K digital amp, via a Bellario tube phono stage, but I know it would sound better playing through the Jolida.Speaker selection is always critical. I have found that for my taste and listening habits, Vienna Acoustics Haydn bookshelf speakers are an ideal compliment to this amp. They have incredible bass and yet the speed and midrange detail that perfectly suit this Jolida. The customer service has been excellent for me, but I suspect this newer version is even more robust than my early JD 202A. Don’t let anyone dissuade you from tube amplification if you want to love listening to recorded music again.
