Golf Swing Mechanics – The Par Three

The shortest of all the holes on a golf course is the par Three. This hole is designed so that the green can be reached in one shot. If you reach the green of a par three in one shot and proceed to two putt it, you will have pared the hole.

From the tee, an iron is generally used. Using an iron gives your shot a higher trajectory. This means the golf ball will hit the green with a greater pitch, and tend to stick near the spot it hits first. A shot with a higher trajectory also tends to have more backspin causing it not roll very far.

The par three is very specially, when it comes to a certain type of shot. This golf shot is known as the hole in one. This involves taking just one shot to complete the hole. It is very rarely achieved, but is accomplished by golfers from every skill level.

The main factor used to considering if a hole is a par three, is its distance. A typical par three is less that 250 yards or 225 meters. Because the par three is designed to have its green hit in one shot, the gradient or slope of the fairway is not a factor in how it is rated.
