Question by axel_valentine: Another “How to Make Money” question…are any of these good ideas?
I’m looking for a way to make some money this summer after I graduate. I’ll be 18 by then but the one place that’s ever hired me also fired me for a small infraction and I doubt they’d rehire me. I tried other places around here and didn’t get any other hiring offers, and since it’ll be summer I bet any positions would be filled.
1. I plan on having a garage sale to get rid of some of my unwanted junk before college.
2. I was pondering getting a job as a secret shopper but I’m not sure if I could. I’m going to try though.
3. I have about $ 600 and I was considering putting it into a high-yield, 6-month CD but the ones around here are at banks hours away in big cities. If this wouldn’t be a real problem let me know so I can talk to my mom about it seriously.
4. The worst part is the sign on all of our apartment doors that say “No Soliciting”. I was thinking of going to talk with the complex owner and telling her I’m trying to raise money for college, which I am, to see if she would allow me to advertise for car washing.
5. I was thinking about looking up legit internet jobs but it seems there are none that anyone here trusts.
Does anyone have an opinion? Anything else I haven’t thought of that you’d like to throw in? And which seems most/least plausible?
Please and thank you. :]

Your not going to make any money on a high yield CD. Rates are pretty sad right now, with governments forcing banks to drop their interest rates to try to keep the economy moving. If you still want one go to ING Direct, good rates and you can get them online.
Advertise your car washing business in the Complex Parking Lot instead of door to door and do something unusual and unrelated to car’s to gain attention. (Eg: Personally thank every customer and offer them fresh home baked cookies for helping put you through college once your done washing their car, don’t advertise about the cookies just do it)
The goal of the odd and unusual benefit whatever you choose, is to make people talk or feel good for buying your service. If people talk they’ll tell their friends and you’ll need less advertising to run a good business.
Good Luck
